Mom's Garden-Replacement Drama for Soo Baek Hyang starts March 17, 2014

Mom's Garden (2014)
With tears in my eyes, I am preparing for the end of what will definitely be my "cracktastic" drama for 2014, Soo Baek Hyang. However, surprisingly I am finding the replacement drama, Mom's Garden to be more and more interesting as time goes on. No, it won't replace the love I have for Soo Baek Hyang but I am definitely adding it to the top of my watch list beginning in April.

Normally with daily dramas, I wait the cursory 15-20 episodes before I start (there has been very few exceptions to this rule). So I have been trying to find out as much information as I can from various sites to include MBC's site for the drama, Mom's Garden. There really isn't enough information out on this drama. So, I will try to put together a synopsis based on what I have read so far and hope it makes some sense.

Stars
Jeong Yu-mi as Seo Yoon-joo
Seo Yoon-joo is described as the daughter of a family who owns a conglomerate and is a veterinarian who works specifically with horses.
Choi Tae-joon as Cha Ki-joon
Choi Tae Joon’s character Cha Ki Joon is a second generation romantic chaebol, with a secret dream of being a chef. He has no interest in the family business. He has enjoyed the privilege life from an early age and grew up the youngest.
Go Se Won as Cha Seong-jun
As the elder brother to Cha Ki-joon, Cha Seong-jun, not much on his character yet. Looks like from the only trailer I can find that he may have initial interest in Yoon-joo but not sure as of yet.
Uhm Hyun-kyung as Kim Soo-jin
Kim Soo-jin looks like her character will definitely be interesting.  She hates being poor and taking care of her mother and family. Looks like she will possibly be Cha Seong-jun's love interest or maybe her wishful thinking. We will see.
Ko Doo-sim  as Jeong Sun-Jeong
Yoon-joo's mother. Owns a restaurant that Yoon-joo's father used to frequent. Again, not much character development written in English. Anyone with Hangul skills, drop me a line with the translations.

Other Characters
Lee El as Kim Ja-kyeong
Kim Bo Ra as Kim Soo-ah
Choo So Young as Cha Bo Young
Kim Sa-kwon as Ha Dong-chang

Plot
Seo Yoon-joo is a cheerful and straightforward woman, daughter of a conglomerate family and she is in love with Cha Ki-joon, the son of another rich family. Though Ki-joon is a second-generation chaebol, he secretly dreams of becoming a chef.

“Mother’s Garden” is being touted as a “kind drama” with the themes of warm family affection and love. Now, does that mean we will not see the usually back-stabbing and machinations of the rich? Does that mean we won't be seeing the scheming gold-digger theme? Okay, one more; the usual flooding of the story line cliques like birth secrets, adultery, love triangle, etc. etc.? I find that hard to believe. Maybe the success of the story line for Ugly Alert rubbed off a little bit, we will see.

The script writer is Park Jung Ran (KBS's "Yellow Handkerchief" (2003)MBC’s “A Thousand Kisses,” “Don’t Cry My Love”, "The First Kiss") who collaborated with producer Rho Do Chul in "Twinkle Twinkle" and "Hospital 2". and director Noh Do Chul (MBC dramas “Sparkling,” “General Hospital 2”).

Filmography and Information on the Cast
Jung Yoo Mi’s last drama was SBS weekend drama “Wonderful Mama,” and she’s currently appearing on MBC variety show “We Got Married” with Jung Joon Young, while Choi Tae Joon completed SBS daily drama “Ugly Alert” in November last year and earned recognition for his role in that drama (soompi source). Choo So Young comes back to the TV screen and MBC after 10 years since 2004 "Between a Lady and an Older Woman."

Kim Bo Ra takes on the role of Kim Soo-ah, a girl from a difficult situation however, bright and cheerful. She is unlike her sister Kim Soo-jin (Uhm Hyun-kyung). Kim Sa-kwon left a strong impression in the JTBC drama "Can We Love??" as producer Jo and was also focused on as one of the three handsome doctors in MBC "Golden Time". He also performed in a musical and starred in various advertisements. (source: hancinema)
